8
Report your loss to your insurance company, but do not give a statement to the other driver’s insurance company. Any statement that you give them will be used against you.
9
Do not sign anything containing a statement by you until you speak with an attorney.
10
Do not sign up with any lawyer or doctor who has someone conveniently there to sign you up and avoid any lawyer that has someone to contact you first. Not only is this practice illegal, but these people usually have a deal with each other to make sure that they get the most money possible and not you. They will run up high bills for unnecessary treatment then agree to reduce the bill to settle your case quickly and cheaply to make sure that they get paid. You will be left with hardly anything.
11
See your doctor right away or go to the hospital. If you feel any pain, do not think that you are helping yourself by refusing treatment. The paid will kick in later and the insurance company will claim that you are faking.
12
Tell your doctor of all of your physical pain. Do not minimize or exaggerate anything.
13
Follow up with all medical treatment ordered by your doctor. Any breaks in treatment will reduce the amount of money that the insurance company will pay.
14
If seriously injured, do not try to settle your own claim.
